Do you have a childhood hero? Mr. Rogers is my childhood hero, but I didn’t realize this until I was an adult. Growing up in rural Nebraska and spending time alone while my older siblings went to school, TV became my connection to the world. Sure, there were Sesame Street friends, Muppets, the Clampetts, the Brady Bunch and Gilligan’s Island, but Fred Rogers was different. He was real. He was talking to me and he genuinely meant what he said.
Fred Rogers is one of the kindest people I have ever known. I often think of him as a mentor and a model of how to treat children. What a remarkable human. His wisdom and peaceful manner continue to influence me. I strive to be more like him.
I think he has remarkably fitting quotes for school counselors. Here are a few for you to download and use as you like.
